What are your adoption fees?

What does an adoption include?

3

Adoptions include spay/neuter, Rabies vaccinations, Microchip, heart worm test for dogs, FIV/FeLV test for cats, flea/tick prevention, dewormer, vet records that we have etc. Adoptions also include a bag of food that the animal is currently eating. An adoption packet with vital information such as the 3 day, 3 week, 3 month rule, list of veterinarians in the area, emergency clinics, coupons to local pet stores such as Razzle Dazzle or I’ll Be Doggone, and more to get your new pet settled.

We are looking to see if your pets are spayed or neutered. That your current and previous pets were/are kept up to date on core vaccines (or vaccine titers). and that your pets are on heartworm prevention.

Make sure you complete each question on the application! Completely. If there are sections left empty, we will not consider that a complete application. Take the time. Fill it out!

Basically- we want to know that the pets we place are going into homes where they will receive regular vet care, and their health is a priority for you and your family.

And bonus points for extra love, snuggles and training classes along the way

What are you looking for on our application and why do you ask for veterinarian references?

If I rent,
why do you have to contact my Landlord?

5

We need to verify with your landlord that pets are allowed! We would hate for you to take home a furry baby only to have to return it because your landlord doesn’t allow pets. This is just a quick verification to ensure pets are allowed in your rental home!

How old do I have to be to adopt an animal?

6

You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt from the KCHF.

How long does it take to process an application?

7

Generally takes us 3-5 business days to approve an application assuming that we are able to reach your references.

I’ve been approved, now what do I need to bring with me to the meet and greet?

8

If you have a dog(s), in the home currently and you are coming in to meet a dog, please note that we do require a meet and greet with ALL current dogs in the home prior to adoption. This does not have to be done at your initial visit, however we do not hold any animal.

In order to take a cat home with you, you must have a cat carrier with you. Do not have loaners on hand.

I have tried calling an no one answers the phone. Why?

9

We have a very small staff who are charged with the care and feeding of all the adoptable pets at the shelter. If we don’t answer the phones it is because we are taking care of the animals and we will call you back as quickly as we can!

Send us a Facebook or IG message for a quicker response.

I am interested in volunteering,
what kind of opportunities do you have?

10

We have an extensive volunteer program ranging from basic animal care/cleaning to socializing animals to those people who are interested in working with the dogs. Volunteering can range from just stopping in to being a regularly scheduled volunteer. We offer a doggy date program, as well as a foster program and even a short-term foster program. We also have open positions to join our Board of Directors too.

You must be 18 years or older to volunteer. If you are under 18 and want to volunteer you must be accompanied by an adult who will stay with you while you are at the shelter.

Sign up to Volunteer, Foster, Join the Board - already a volunteer check your email or text to sign up for volunteer hours!
